"Escape From New York" Snake Plissken Jacket

We have all had those defining moments when we noticed a film personality on the silver screen wearing a fantastic leather jacket. Or maybe you fell in love with James Dean’s iconic red windbreaker. You thought it looked so great and you knew someday you would have one just like it. This is a forum to discuss those jackets.

I've always wanted this jacket. It kinda reminds me of Starsky's jacket. Anyone know the manufacturer or maybe a replica?

Hopefully I'll be doing this jacket very soon. Luckily, someone just found a near perfect vintage match on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0192459889

I put in a bid and was shocked how high it went up to in the end. In any case, this jacket looks identical except that it buttons shut. The original probably was also available with a zipper, but this doesn't seem present on the EFNY jacket. My guess is that it originally had one but lost it somewhere in its history... possibly removed for the film.

Rick, I can e-mail you these pictures if you like, as it's a pain trying to grab them from hosting site the seller is using.

If anyone is interested in this jacket, drop me a line to discuss details.

Kind regards,
Indy

I hope you got the jacket Magnoli. Myself, and my friends Steve, Hector and Art have all contacted you about getting replicas. That original was incredible.

I'd also be tempted by a replica of this jacket as it's one I've admired for many years. A timeless classic.

I'm afraid that the auction went too high, too fast for me. Luckily the seller took some great photos!

The person who got it may be the guy who works at Universal Studios Hollywood. If that's the case, my friend Steve can probably get him to take more pictures. Got my fingers crossed.

I can't believe that after almost 10 years of searching we finally found it! Too bad it won't be hanging in my closet, but luckily we have Magnoli!

Definitely! I actually wrote to the seller to get permission to use them here. We'll see what happens with that.

Does the EFNY SoS jacket have any type of closures on it? I can see no hint of a zipper or buttonholes, except for the obvious ones on the collar.

It does not look as if this jacket has a manufacturer tag either.

I will tell you, I would not have looked twice at that jacket if I came across it on ebay. Once it is pointed out that it looks remarkably close to the Escape From New York jacket, I can see it.

After years of looking for this jacket and cross-referencing the Ebay jacket against my over 20 photographs and hundreds of screen captures I can attest, it is the jacket.

Russells jacket has apparently no signs of button holes, so myself, Steve and Mr. Magnoli have come to the conclusion that Russell's may have once had a zipper. It was most likely broken and removed for the movie.

The EBay jacket may have been re-lined also. Hopefully there's a label in there somewhere. Maybe the buyer can be of help in that area.
